IPC–The Hospitalist Company Reports Continued Growth and Expansion One Year After Jacksonville Launch
Nation’s Premier Hospitalist Company Sees Vast Opportunities in Florida; Expansion Expected to Continue in Jacksonville and Throughout the State
02.14.2006
(JACKSONVILLE, FL – February 14, 2006) — The nation’s fastest-growing hospitalist company is growing fast in Jacksonville.
IPC–The Hospitalist Company announced today that its physicians are now seeing more than 31,000 patient visits a year in the Jacksonville community alone after entering the market just a year ago. IPC physicians currently provide inpatient care for patients at 528-bed Saint Vincent’s Medical Center as well as at 16 skilled nursing facilities in the area. The care is being provided by seven IPC physicians and two physician assistants, a 33% growth over the number of practitioners on board a year ago.
Hospitalists are specially trained physicians who work in close consultation with primary care physicians and appropriate specialists to manage a patient’s entire hospital experience and help drive the delivery system toward better, more patient-focused care. As the nation’s fastest-growing medical specialty, hospitalists have been shown to increase the quality of care and reduce healthcare costs. Hospitalists also provide patients the added comfort and security of having a physician on-site to oversee care, answer questions and ensure the smooth coordination of all hospital services.
IPC first entered Jacksonville through the acquisition of American Hospitalists in January 2005. Since that time, the company has seen “a tremendous receptivity to our physicians and our commitment to quality care from both patients and the medical community alike – and that success has triggered our growth in other parts of the state,” said IPC Executive Director Larry Hanan.
As evidence, following Jacksonville’s launch IPC has expanded into Tampa; Ocala; and the Southwest Florida communities of Port Charlotte, Fort Myers and Collier County. Combined, the company has, in one year, gone from start-up in Florida to more than 140,000 annualized patient visits in the state (nationwide, IPC has more than 1.3 million patient visits annually). IPC is currently actively recruiting additional physicians and looking for additional marketplace opportunities both in Florida and nationally to keep up with the present and anticipated future demand for services.
“Inpatient care is incredibly complex, and there are decided advantages to care being provided by physicians and other healthcare professionals who do this exclusively,” said Hanan. “IPC’s deep experience in this area, our communication technology and the strong physician support systems we have in place leads to better care, more patient-focused care and increased operational efficiencies, which benefit both the patient and the hospital.”
IPC, the nation’s premier and fastest-growing hospitalist company, currently provides inpatient care in 20 markets nationwide. No other hospitalist company matches its depth of experience and breadth of resources. The company employs approximately 500 physicians who collectively have more than 1.3 million patient visits and manage more than $1 billion in healthcare expenditures annually. These IPC physicians work closely with hospitals, health plans and independent locally based physicians to help drive the healthcare delivery system toward higher-quality, more patient-focused care. In doing so, IPC has been an industry leader and catalyst in the growth of hospitalist medicine.
