(TAMPA, FL – March 13, 2006) — IPC–The Hospitalist Company announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Florida Hospital Zephyrhills to provide high-quality inpatient services in accordance with the “evidence-based practice” initiatives of Adventist Health System. The 38-hospital Adventist Health System has been an early adopter of evidence-based medicine, and the agreement with IPC is a further demonstration of their ongoing commitment in this area.

IPC is the nation’s premier hospitalist company, employing specially trained physicians who manage a patient’s entire hospital experience from admission to discharge. These physicians have no traditional office practice and instead focus 100 percent of their time and energy in the hospital setting. In 20 markets around the country, IPC has shown to help drive the delivery system toward better, more patient-focused care while increasing quality and reducing costs, lengths of stay and readmit rates. The presence of an IPC physician who works in close consultation with the primary care physician also provides patients the added comfort and security of having a physician on-site to oversee care, answer questions and ensure the smooth coordination of all hospital services.

“We asked IPC to come to our hospital and set a high standard in the use of our clinical pathways as well as provide in-house availability to our patients and the emergency department,” said Phil Smith, M.D., vice president of medical services at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills. “Some members of the medical staff have already started to utilize IPC’s service for night and weekend call coverage as well. We are pleased with the positive impact IPC has had.”

IPC entered the Tampa market one year ago and since its launch has hired 16 physicians who currently provide care at nine area hospitals. Three of these physicians are now deployed full-time at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills. Over the past year, IPC also established practices in Jacksonville; Ocala; and the Southwest Florida communities of Port Charlotte, Fort Myers, and Collier County. Combined, IPC physicians see more than 140,000 annualized patient visits in Florida alone and 1.3 million nationwide.

“We are excited by this new partnership with Florida Hospital Zephyrhills and are anxious to work with their medical staff to improve care through the use of evidence-based medicine,” said IPC Executive Director Larry Hanan. “Together we have established very specific benchmarks to measure performance, and it is the patient who will ultimately benefit from this obsessive focus on quality and responsiveness.”

Florida Hospital Zephyrhills, a part of Adventist Health System since opening in 1985, has 154 beds dedicated to general/acute inpatient and outpatient healthcare and six beds to serve patients from its Heart Institute which opened earlier this year. The hospital continues to meet the demands of the rapidly growing communities it serves with increased and expanded services, highly qualified physicians and staff, and state-of-the-art technology.

IPC, the nation’s fastest-growing hospitalist company, currently provides inpatient care in 20 markets nationwide. No other hospitalist company matches its depth of experience and breadth of resources. The company employs approximately 500 physicians who collectively have more than 1.3 million patient visits and manage more than $1 billion in healthcare expenditures annually. These IPC physicians work closely with hospitals, health plans and independent, locally based physicians to help drive the healthcare delivery system toward higher-quality, more patient-focused care. In doing so, IPC has been an industry leader and catalyst in the growth of hospitalist medicine.
