North Hollywood, Calif., November 21, 2007 – IPC The Hospitalist Company, Inc. (IPC) today announced that it has acquired a hospitalist practice at Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital in Tucson, Arizona, an acute care hospital with 402 beds. St. Mary’s Hospital is a member of the Carondelet Health Network and the Ascension Hospital System.
Dr. Atif Khan and Dr. Talal Alsbiei will join the IPC hospitalist program already established at St. Mary’s that provides exclusive hospitalist services with 24/7 coverage for unassigned patients admitted through the emergency department and those directly referred by their primary care providers or specialists.
“With the large volume of patients admitted at all hours from the surrounding rural areas, we are fortunate to have doctors who are able to jump on board in full swing because of their experience, training and familiarity with the facility,” said Dr. David Bowman, executive director of IPC-Arizona. “They bring significant assets to the program by allowing us to offer expanded coverage for any community or attending physician who wishes to use hospitalist services.”
Dr. Alsbiei said, “We had a hospitalist practice at St. Mary’s for two-and-a-half years and we welcomed the chance to work with the IPC team because it allows us to have a much better lifestyle with more days off than we had before.”
There are plans to add four or five full-time hospitalists within the year to accommodate the growing number of patients admitted to St. Mary’s.
