North Hollywood, Calif., December 4, 2007 – IPC The Hospitalist Company, Inc. (IPC) announced today that it has signed a contract to provide comprehensive hospitalist services at University Community Hospital (UCH) in Tampa. UCH is a 465-bed facility that is part of the not-for-profit University Community Health network serving the Tampa Bay area of Florida.

IPC has been providing hospitalist services at UCH since 2005. This experience led the hospital’s management team to ask IPC to contract with UCH for a comprehensive range of hospitalist services. Under the direction of Dennis Deruelle, M.D., IPC practice group leader, the IPC hospitalist team currently includes seven full-time hospitalist physicians, with plans to add more physicians in the future. IPC hospitalists also practice at University Community Health system’s Carrollwood Hospital in Tampa and Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital in Tarpon Springs.

“From the very beginning of their tenure at UCH, the IPC hospitalists have provided exceptional services,” said Brad Bjornstad, M.D., University Community Hospital chief medical officer. “Their inpatient management skills and their equally important post-discharge transition management services earned the trust and respect of our physicians, which resulted in an expanded contract for services.”

“We are aligning our operation with the quality goals of the hospital,” said Larry Hanan, executive director of IPC-Florida. “Our group is contributing to the hospital’s current initiatives to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of care. It is a tremendous opportunity to make a difference, and we are excited to partner with UCH to help bring it to fruition.”

UCH was recently named the top-rated hospital in the area by HealthGrades, a healthcare ratings company.
