  1. Education. Miami-Dade County has the fourth largest public school district in the U.S. More than 80 percent of graduating seniors continue their education.
  2. Real Estate. The Miami-Dade County housing market offers everything from waterfront condos to stately single-family homes; it has a stability that’s unique among other U.S. cities, since half of all residences are second homes.
  3. Family. Miami was #4 among the Best Cities for Families in a 2005 Child.com survey; in 2008, Forbes named it America’s Cleanest City for its year-round good air quality, vast green spaces, clean drinking water, clean streets and citywide recycling program.
  4. Culture. Miami-Dade County’s vibrant cultural scene includes the Florida Philharmonic, the New World Symphony, Florida Grand Opera, Miami City Ballet and Coconut Grove Playhouse.
  5. Recreation. The area’s favorable climate allows recreational activities including golf, tennis, biking, swimming, boating and fishing to be enjoyed year-round.

    Isela Sotolongo joined IPC in August 2008 while serving as CEO of Hospitalists of America LLC (HOA), based in Coral Gables, FL.  HOA was honored by the South Florida Journal’s Business of the Year Award 2004 as a Finalist Rising Star. Previously, Isela was director of operations at Navix Radiology.  She was responsible for the operations of four regional offices in four major areas throughout the United States. Isela also helped to successfully organize and develop the consolidation of a $75 million acquisition which operated in 22 states with over 800 employees. In 1981 Isela co-founded Gables Billing Inc., a full-service physician practice management company with annual collections of $25 million.  In 1997, she sold her business to Navix Radiology Systems, Inc. Isela received her BS in 1975 from Florida International University.

    Dr. Pila-Collazo has been involved in the South Florida Health industry since 1991. She was appointed S.E. Florida Regional Medical Director for IPC, The Hospitalist Company in 2008 where she is actively oversees over 150 physicians. She is personally involved in physician performance profiling, quality improvement, payer and physician communications, reporting, credentialing, recruiting and daily management of admissions. Prior to serving as Regional Medical Director for IPC, Dr. Pila-Collazo was Medical Director for Hospitalists of America, serving the S. Florida region since 2006, chairing the Quality and Credentialling committees, and involved in management, quality and utilization. Previously Dr. Pila-Collazo worked as a hospitalist,a managed care staff physician with CAC Medical Centers, ran a private practice and worked as a physician with the Public Health Trust in the South Florida area prior to 2006. She earned her degree of Medical Doctor from Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico and trained in Pediatrics at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Formerly Rutgers Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey where she was honored with awards for Resident and Student Teaching.

    Lee Knowles joined the IPC team in August 2008 as Director of Operations, Southeast Florida Region. Lee has more than 20 years experience in the healthcare industry, most recently as CFO of Hospitalists of America. Lee worked from 1998 to 2003 as controller of Ramsay Youth Services, Inc. (RYS), a national company with psychiatric inpatient facilities and residential treatment centers for children at risk. RYS was later acquired by Psychiatric Solutions, Inc. where Lee served as southeast regional controller from 2003 to 2005. Lee began her healthcare career in 1987 with CAC-Ramsay Health Plans, a local HMO, where she started as a staff accountant and worked her way up to director of accounting. Lee earned her Bachelor of Accounting from Florida International University in 1992 and was licensed as a CPA from the State of Georgia in 1994.

    Drina Hernandez joined IPC in August 2008 through the acquisition of Hospitalists of America. At HOA she was the Provider Relations Manager, responsible for developing and maintaining professional relationships with providers, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and primary care physicians. Drina was also involved in marketing, education, and physician recruiting during her time at HOA. Drina brings more than 17 years of experience in the healthcare industry to IPC, mainly in the area of managed care. Drina has also worked at AvMed Health Plans where she was responsible for many medical offices in Miami-Dade including the University of Miami physicians, as well as several large specialty groups. She is currently enrolled at American Intercontinental University to obtain her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Health Care Administration.

    Brian comes to IPC through Hospitalists of America, LLC (HOA) where he was the senior director of network development.  While at HOA, Brian was responsible for the development of their physician network of hospitalists in South Florida, payor and hospital administration relations, as well as contract review and implementation.  Brian has 14 years of healthcare experience which includes hospitals, large physician group practices, management service organizations and independent physician associations. He served as contract manager for the pilot hospitalist program mandated by the Agency for Health Care Administration. Brian also worked for Humana, Inc. where he developed administrative expertise in the management of risk providers, pediatric practices, and specialty networks. Brian received his Bachelor’s Degree in Marking and International Business from Florida International University

    Crystal Thomas joined IPC in August 2008. She has eight years experience in the healthcare industry. Crystal’s experience in healthcare includes medical assisting, office management, and utilization review/case management in Primary Care, Occupation Health, Cardiovascular and Urgent Care settings. She currently has her Associates in Arts in Social Work and is currently enrolled at University of Central Florida obtaining her Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration.

Ken Macpherson joined IPC as a Regional Manager of Physician Staffing in 2005, bringing more than 25 years of healthcare sales and recruiting experience with him.

Ken’s background includes provider relations and recruiting experience with Memorial Hermann Continuing Care Corporation and Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center, both based in Houston. Prior to entering the staffing side of healthcare, he had a highly successful career within the pharmaceutical industry as a senior hospital sales executive with Zeneca Pharmaceuticals for 19 years. Ken received a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from Wichita State University and a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Texas Woman’s University. He is an active member in ACHE, HFMA, ASPR and the MGMA.
